National Library of Foreign Literature logo design

The National Library of Foreign Literature is one of the youngest public research libraries in Hungary. Nowadays, it has two special scope of duties: it contains in-depth collection of original materials mainly on contemporary world literature, linguistics and musicand it is the co-ordational centre of the minority libraries in Hungary. It is called National Library of Foreign Literature since 1989. It was established in 1956 under the name of „Gorkij State Library” and had originally worked as Russian language library. According to the reader’s needs, the subjects of collections were gradually widened. Until now, an incomparable collection of foreign language materials was developed nationwide. The institute was qualified to a national resource library in 1978 and later to an academic research centre.
